Long ago, we knew about physical security!

Our goal: Keep the bad guys OUT!

Back then, if the invaders got inside it was "GAME OVER". Time to react became our most important commodity. Fast notification as early as possible, and slowing down the invader's rate of advance were our highest priorities.

Our method: Make it hard for them to get close

Back then, the invaders were on foot or horseback. So we did everything possible, using the land, to make an invader's approach difficult. We cleared the perimeter so we could see them coming. Every step they took towards us became tougher: moats, drawbridges, followed by boiling water and arrows shot from the top of our fortress walls.

Today, not a lot has changed about the bad guy

The is the same after hundreds of years

He's pretty much the same as he was 2000 years ago

What's changed is the way we respond

GE Simon Monitor Alarm system is NOT physical security

For most of us, "physical security" means "Monitored Alarm" . But if we think of things the way we have for thousands of years, the monitored alarm doesn't provide physical security.

The truth is, the Monitored Alarm wasn't designed to provide physical security, it was designed to support it

Physical Security: The Missing Benefit is TIME

By itself, a monitored alarm is worse than nothing

A Monitored Alarm says: "Invade and I'll SCREAM!"

Physical Security prevents an intrusion from ever happening

spike door is real physical security

Physical Security is a METHOD, not a single process or product

Our goal: Bring the PHYSICAL back to Physical Security
